What do you accept about yourself, your family, your job and your world?

The list is probably long, but we don’t spend time thinking about those things that we accept.  Instead, we focus on what we cannot accept.

If it is true that what we focus on expands, and we focus on what we do not accept, do we create more lack of acceptance?

As a coach, I help my clients to focus on what doesn’t work in order to identify, clarify and take actions.  But, at times, the best and most powerful action that can be taken is acceptance.  Sometimes it is acceptance that moves us forward, even though acceptance is the hardest thing to do.

So, what is most unacceptable to you right now?

What causes you the most pain? Can you consider accepting it for a minute, an hour, a day?

Think of it this way, you can always stop accepting again after the minute, hour or day is over.  But, maybe something will change or shift if you give yourself a short vacation from the lack of acceptance.

This month, I am going to accept the fact that no matter how much I exercise and eat right, I will not be getting into the same jeans I wore before I had three beautiful babies.

Phew!  Now that I accept that, the first thing I am doing is going out and buying new jeans.

ACTION STEPS: So, what can you accept, temporarily?

1. Make a list of three parts of your life that you cannot accept.

2. Think about how your life would be different if you were able to truly accept one of these aspects of your life, forever.

3. Commit to a length of time that you will accept this unacceptable part of your life. Notice what happens during this time.

4. After the time is complete, take a look and see if anything has shifted or lightened up. Did you have any insights? Did you see solutions that were not there before?
