So often we ask ourselves; what are we going to do about this?  There MUST be something to do.

Something must be done! But how about all the stuff that you are NOT going to do?

I’ll tell you something;  I like a nice solid to-do list as much as the next gal, but I have recently discovered something even more rewarding.

The To-Don’t List.  The To-Don’t List is genius.

What have you decided you will not be doing?  I’m sure if you think about it, you may come up with a nice long list.

But often, even though items have been happily sitting on the “to-don’t” list for years – we still feel that we “should” put them back on the to-do list.  And we suffer.

We “should” ourselves, right and left!

With all the incredible options we have in life, why not celebrate our “to-don’t” list and bask in the sunshine that is left when the clouds of “should” part, revealing more time for what you enjoy and do well?

Time to slather on some sun-block and soak in the rays, ladies!  My “to-don’t” list gets longer every day.

Number one;  I’m not sending holiday cards anymore.

That is different than “I should be sending holiday cards BUT I just didn’t get around to it.”  No.  I’m just not sending holiday cards.

Is there a chance I might send out cards one day?  You bet.  But for now, I’m not struggling to find a good picture of the family in which every member is happy with their appearance, followed by the expense of printing, the hand cramps of addressing and the stamp, stamp, stamping.

And I know full well that I am a little humbug about it, but that’s exactly why I have no business sending out holiday cards.  All of you wonderful people who do send them out, I bow down to you.

Number two;  I’m not settling for new shoes that hurt my feet, just because they look amazing

Will I buy shoes that are not that comfortable after 3 hours at a cocktail party?  Absolutely.

I don’t want anyone to think I am going to show up to my son’s wedding in a pair of medium brown hush puppies.  But, there are plenty of high heels out there that won’t leave you with crushed toes and a series of appointments with the Chiropractor.  Sorry Prada.

Get the idea?

I’m sure your mind is brewing and bubbling with tons of wonderful ideas for your To-Don’t list.

Am I right?  Are you ready?

Coach Me Quick Ideas for Creating Your Own To-Don’t List:

1.  Take a moment to identify the things you don’t do, but feel you “should” be doing.  Can any of those items be safely tucked in to your “to-don’t” list?

2.  What is one thing you are doing now, that you wish you didn’t have to do.  Can you give it up?  Can you modify it or delegate it?

3.  Notice how you feel during the next week as you go about your normal activities.  What do you look forward to?  When are you unhappy about what you are doing?  Ask yourself; is there another way?

4.  Make a commitment to put one thing on your to-don’t list each week.

5.  Remember that if you really want to, anything can come off the to-do list at any time, but don’t hold your breath.
